BioIf I had to wear a label on my forehead it would say: "Cuban-American, but not really". Both of my parents are from Cuba but, I was born in America and since then have lived in Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Spain, El Salvador and Australia.
I guess you can refer to me as a Peace Corps drop out. My partner and I only completed training and decided that it was either 2 years abroad and an indefinite stay in America afterwards (probably depressed out of our minds) or move back to Australia, become residents and live abroad indefinitely. The decision was a bit more complex than that, but we're veterans at travelling and living abroad so it had nothing to do with not being able to handle the heat.
I consider myself to be just a tad bit overeducated to be in the profession than I've chosen, but I try to keep this to myself and use it as my "reason" for being older than most people in comparable positions.
I'm an apprentice chef, and probably will be for the next 2 years or so by Australian standards. I expect to be running a kitchen by then!
